Leave Room for Yourself in the Life You’re Building

On December 19, 2026, I will have earned my Juris Doctor.

There were times I wasn’t sure I would get here. I kept going. As that milestone approaches, I’m thinking about both the work it took and the parts of myself I sometimes put on hold to do it.

After 18 years in health and wellness, you might expect that I knew how to protect my own well-being through law school. I knew how. I didn’t always do it.

Movement, rest, and spiritual grounding sometimes took a back seat to another deadline. I told myself I would get back to me later. There was always another assignment, another reading, another reason to wait.

That is a difficult thing to admit when caring for people is your profession. But experience has made me more honest about the distance between understanding a healthy practice and making room for it in a demanding life.

Ambition needs care, too.

I’m learning that discipline includes knowing when to pause. A walk, a quiet moment, a meal eaten without working through it, or a reasonable stopping point can belong in the day before every task is finished. I don’t want care to remain a reward I have to earn through exhaustion.

My studies in constitutional law and jurisprudence have also invited me to think carefully about the principles that guide us: what we value, how we reason, and what those commitments look like in practice. I find myself bringing that same inquiry home. If I value health and peace, where do they appear in the choices I make each day?

This journey deepens the work I do through Travelers Health + Wellness. I understand how easily capable, committed people can neglect themselves while trying to build something meaningful. I also understand why another instruction to “make time” can feel unhelpful when time already feels spoken for.

I want our work to make that next step more approachable: movement that fits the person, opportunities to reconnect, and support that meets people in the places they already live, work, and gather. Personal training, residential classes, and hospitality wellness experiences can all create room for that practice.

You don’t have to rebuild your entire life to begin. You might start by asking: What have I been postponing that helps me feel like myself? What small part of it can I make room for this week?

I’m proud of this approaching milestone. And I want to arrive with more than a degree. I want the health and peace to enjoy what comes next.

Whatever you’re working toward, leave room for yourself in the life you’re building.
